May 8 - Chubbies

"Regard it as just as desirable to build a chicken house as to build a cathedral."

~ Frank Lloyd Wright

"Chubbies" are a balloon concept shared by Nelly & Aleks from @loswaikiki in a Facebook Live video over 3 years ago.

I only found that out after reverse image searching an uncredited Pinterest photo that caught my eye.  I have only see the advertisement, not the tutorial - but I just loved the cheerful little faces and wanted to give it a go.  Especially because the image set was missing a certain animal I like to see ...

From what I can tell, these were probably designed as decor pieces.  They rely on a suspicious number of raisins or glue dots to keep things in place as there are so few connection points on a round -- and they've got a very convenient tie-in point on the back.  Unless, of course, you decide to give yours a caboose.

April 11 - Baby Chick Mini-Doll

"The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it."

~ Arnold H. Glasow

"Peep!"

('Cock-a-doodle-doo' felt a little too grown up.)

This was a little chick shown in the MeyiaArt channel that followed a similar structure of the previous two.

To be perfectly honest, I built these a couple months back and just never got around to posting them.  When I see a balloon concept, there's always this impulse to run wild with it - but the whole "adorable baby animal" thing isn't really my natural habitat.

So they sat, never knowing that all the while I was considering turning one into an adorable little poultry themed villain or how many tentacles I would have to add before things became less "cute".

March 11 - Iso Ducky

"In diversity, there is beauty and there is strength."

~ Maya Angelou

In some circumstances, he might have been cast away or called "ugly" - but the ducklings of Purple Pond were far too enlightened for that.

He was different, sure, but it just wasn't a thing. The other ducklings swam around him, under him, over him, all without a second thought.

When he grew up, he was uncompromisingly hideous.  Life got very difficult outside of Purple Pond.

April 21 - Li'l Chick

How funky is your chicken?
How loose is your goose?
Now come on everybody!
And shake your caboose!

Jackie Ochitwa's class at the Q Corner Convention was full of these cute little "kawaii" animals.  This was the chick she taught, and a number of them follow this same over-sized head cutesy-chibi style, so for organizational purposes and because I still think of Kawaii as a Hawaiian Island every time I hear it, I'm going to refer to these as Li'l Guys.

She suggested that you could use a smaller quicklink for the head and I actually think that works better since it keeps closer in color to the rest and is easily big enough as is.

You can see how easily this simple form could be any number of li'l birds with just a color change, brown/white/black for a li'l chicken, head feathers sideways for a li'l cockatiel, the head attachment allows for easy spin so it's perfect for a li'l owl or a li'l exorcism.

January 22 - Chicks

Camilla, you're sweeter than wine or vanilla, Camilla.
Come lie beneath this tree, it's a willa, Camilla.
Camilla, the night it grows stilla and stilla, Camilla.
You're prettier by far than Godzilla, Camilla.

~ Camilla Gonzo

I have spent a while exploring Truscheit-style, and would happily explore another hundred designs with it - but it's probably time to move on. Not so much auf wiedersehen (goodbye), as bis später (until later).

These two were made a bit in haste as I was preparing to leave on a plane to visit my mom, and there are things that should be cleaned up in both of them that I just didn't have time for. This is a balloon concept, but this is one that Linda posted and she has an uncanny way to elicit such personality from her designs. Hers is posed laying on it's belly in an "aren't I just adorable?" pose, that I wasn't able to achieve.

Thank you, Linda - your images are so full of attitude, so clean in design - I feel like I will be trying to reach that bar for some time!
