August 23 - Grapes

"When we are crushed like grapes, we cannot think of the wine we will become."

~ Henri Nouwen

These grapes were a design shown on the Isopresso channel, one of his 'beginner' series.

Honestly, this is a great beginner balloon.  Making twenty similar sized bubble grapes smooshed together like this feels like I'm practicing musical scales - or I'm doing a good workout at the gym thinking about the process.  I'm sculpting for the future if not for today.

They're probably not ripe anyways...

April 12 - Cuty Corn

It's a mystery to me.
We have a greed, with which we have agreed.

~ Eddie Vedder - Society

Monsanto didn't perfect corn - they patented it.  They modified it to resist their own herbicide, then sued farmers for "violating patents" even when pollen drifted onto their land.  That's not innovation - that's biological copyright enforcement.

Diversity abandoned, ownership claimed, and farmers now pay for what was once their birthright.

Society, you're a crazy breed.

This balloon design popped (yeah I WENT there) into my feed recently, 'Cuty Corn' by Balloon Doctor Kim Jung-tae according to my google translate.

To the Monsanto legal team, rest easy - this genome is independent, non-GMO, and owes you nothing under any applicable jurisdiction, real or imagined.  But also - shuck you.

----***
I realize now that this is also a copy of a Sergey Loginov design - which could easily have been referenced in the audio of the video and missed through the auto-translate.

May 1 - Ninja Hotdog

You know what I love best about baseball? The pine tar, the resin, the grass, the dirt - and that's just in the hot-dogs.

~ David Letterman

From his simple origins as molded together meat trimmings, he has traveled the world searching for the one who ate his family. He has honed his skills into a delicious fighting machine and follows his only clue. Frankly, he will not stop until he finds this "man in yellow" and relishes the idea of releasing the special sauce of vengeance upon him!

He is .. Ninja Hotdog!

I was all set to move on to the next balloon concept at the start of this month, when I accidentally on purpose watched the first balloon from Christopher Lyle's Clockwork Yellow video (currently available from him directly, but soon to be released on balloon-animals.com). I couldn't resist building this guy.
