August 7 - JJ's R2D2

JJ Szabo was a fantastic instructor, I was glad he taught four of the sessions.  He taught (in costume) Star Wars, club wear, and naughty balloons (which I probably shouldn't show here) and superheroes in classes at Bling Bling Jam.

He creates super effective and efficient, quick line work.  Some instructors struggled with teaching to a variety of skill levels, but JJ was pro -- perhaps it's the simple effectiveness of his designs, but the whole room was twisting along with him with ease.  His classes were so great that I bought all of his DVDs (except the naughty one) even though I don't do any line work, his ideas are just that creative.  This one  is from his Space Warp'd DVD which contains 8 great Star Wars characters. Part 2 contains another 8!

This is the fourth R2 I have created for the blog at this point, and of all of them, this is probably the one that I would create if asked to.  Maybe it's the most recent and most fresh, but I really enjoy the efficient use of the tails of balloons to be both the wristband and part of the decorative blue.

June 22 - R2D2 & R5D4

Hooray! Matt Falloon just posted Episode #6 of Keep Up With Matt Falloon ... With David Brenion! (link)

I know I've already said how much I enjoy these Keep Up Episodes, this is an alternate universe episode - David Brenion plays the role of Matt Falloon (scarily perfect).

It's a whirlwind of twisting and artwork that comes in just over a minute.  R2D2 is a very recognizable character, you might get away with a minimal version, but David shows a quick (of course it's quick) layout that you can follow if you pause.

I tried building R5D4 since they have similar structures.  If I build him again, I'll use a 321 to get a better taper on the head (and do gooder artwork).

R2D2, R5D4, ... BINGO!	What's my motivation in this scene ... bad?

May the Fourteenth be with you!

This fourth installment marks and end of this batch of Corinne Sparkles Smith character cuties.  I hadn't forgotten, and what Star Wars anything would be complete without our ever-present artificial companions?

R2-D2 and BB8 instructions were shown in the video series, but she must have opted not to include C-3PO for some reason.  He was in the crowd shot of the characters though so I pulled up a freeze frame and tried to copy as best I could.  BB8 looks great in form, that one takes a lot of sharpie.

Also, since this is the last installment of these charcter cuties I figure I would include a couple that didn't quite work out - Ackbar and Greedo.

I used a different tail when creating Jabba, I was so excited to have a use for those chubby wavy balloons.

February 28 - R2 & BB8

 Consider this post a little bit of a cleaning of the closet.  I created this over the new years holiday and never got around to posting it.  This marks the actual first sighting of the purple pig in the area.

Also these are my recreations of a couple of my favorite star wars droids, R2-D2 and BB-8.  I tried a number of attempts and techniques at getting BB-8's head to seem like it was floating around the ball of the body.  In the end, it was artwork that probably helped the most.  

R2 was a easy to create, but a struggle to position well - which I "solved" by adding some clear balloons as support beams for the legs and weighing down the feet to keep it stable.
