April 24 - Toucan

Tell me who can catch a toucan? Lou can.
Just how few can ride the toucan? Two can.

~ Shel Silverstein

It was less than a month ago that I built the previous toucan - but I'm working through these Isopresso advanced tutorials more or less in order, so here we are: same bird, same artist, very different build.

There are multiple interesting weaves at play in this one.  The beak is a fairly straightforward weave, but the body is downright fascinating.

Again, weaves are all about trusting the process.  You follow a pattern, then at some point it clicks into place.  I needed a few tries to get the beak right, but this was the first attempt at the body - I could/should probably have rounded off the back section a bit more to give more of a sitting pose.

March 23 - Toucan

"It is not only fine feathers that make fine birds."

~ Aesop

A toucan is what happens when evolution spends all its points maxing out the 'beak size' slider..

Somehow, instead of looking ridiculous, it turned out stunning.

This balloon toucan was taught by Isopresso, his bird forms all tend to follow a similar style, but he has a great knack of being able to make them all so distinct

June 13 - Toucan

What kind of goo can stick you to the toucan?

Who can write some more about the toucan?
You can!

Patrick Van de Ven has released another amazing PDF - this time a toucan.

Patrick creates some of my favorite birds, and it's all about the beaks.  This one is no exception and you can really play around with the colors to get a interesting variety of looks.

Once again I struggled with getting a picture of something that is larger than my photo box.  Right at the point of grumbling I tried taking these outside, and I think it worked perfectly!

The green beaked one I made in the car while my son rehearsed for his recital and stashed it right before watching with my "Take Me!" card attached to it.  It wasn't a very high traffic area (school campus on the weekend) but hopefully good as there were a couple dance recitals there that day.

I can't even...!
You've lost your ability to can?

I think if we follow it, it will lead us to Froot Loops!
