May 9 - Fairy Shrimp

"Delicate things endure because they adapt."

~ Margaret Atwood

Fairy Shrimp are more like sea monkeys/brine shrimp than typical shrimp.

These are the little guys who hatch in puddles and seasonal pools. Their eggs can survive for decades, lying in wait for the next good rain.

They swim upside down on their backs, fluttering their feathery legs.  A fact I am just learning now ... Let's go ahead and imagine when a tiny pig is riding them like a surfboard, they swim upright.
