I love using balloon bases or concepts to come up with other things. It's a massive time saver when the main elements of design are taken care of, and you can focus on what makes a character unique.
YCH is the DeviantArt equivalent in some respects. YCH (Your Character Here) commissions are effectively scenes or poses to easily adapt characters into. These could be humanoid/specific animals/generic forms. It's a really cool and smart way to share your art, with some confidence, and giving a bit of a personal flair to each recipient.
Jillianbeeler is an active hobby DevaintArtist who offered to make a YCH Easter basket for us. She is a fairly active user and seems to cycle through some well thought out simple base forms like this one, with lots of potential customization points. Egg-cellent!
