August 5 - Mickey Ears

Who's the leader of the club,
That's made for you and me?
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E!

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!
Your as welcome as can be,
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E!

If you've been to a balloon convention in the past 5 years, you have seen Diane Cross.

Diane Cross and her accomplices Claire and Ella are three ladies who do their best to attend every balloon convention.  They wear really cool matching headbands every morning, similar but each with their own flair.   There is a real bonding experience when you create art together, people quickly become family - crazy crazy family.  I can't wait to see these three next year.

Diane is nuts.  I mean it in a good way, she is that zany aunt who comes barreling into your driveway just in time to babysit, but forgot to wear pants.  She jumps into the fun and starts throwing elbows.  Last year she won "Top Dog" at the Bling Bling Jam, the ultimate best overall prize in which you have to compete in all the events.  She brought a wonder woman outfit, accessorized with balloons and rode around in her invisible jet - it was awesome.

With the award came a guest teacher spot entitled "Bee Prepared".  Diane, in a big bee outfit, showed us a number of tricks that she uses to speed things up and preload her kit.  She also demonstrated probably one of the most useful headbands, Mickey Ears - and has her own way of attaching them so they sit nicely on even a thin headband with teeth.  I love to make really intricate detailed balloons, but in many instances it's simple elegance that wins people over.  This is probably the fastest, most effective headband you will ever make.

You can use almost any balloons for these - they are a perfect use for animal prints or hearts.  Random junky Walmart balloons seemed to work fine, I tried all sorts without problem.  Sorry for the flood of images, but it was so easy to keep playing ...

Thanks Diane!

Bow .. wow!
Rainbowbow

I'd cook lemonade for you,
Make a hat with grenades for you.

This would look better with my team on it...

Olaf the other hairbands,
used to laugh and call him names...

Skulls for your skull ...

Pumpkin Head

... not actual snow leopard balls.

What are the odds!?

  2. I, too, was very impressed with Diane's class. She gave out so much info in such a short time. These headbands (with her little trick to make the skinnier ones work better) are real crowd pleasers and great time savers when you are inundated. I already made several at my last gig and look to make more. Gotta order more prints! LOL Thanks again, Diane! ❤
